Translation : गंगा हमारी राष्ट्रीय नदी है। यह विश्व धरोहरों में से एक है। गंगा भारत की जीवन रेखा है और हमारे देश की सबसे महत्वपूर्ण नदियों में से एक है। इसे पवित्र माना जाता है और देवी गंगा के रूप में पूजा की जाती है। गंगा की यात्रा गोमुख से शुरू होती है। गोमुख हिमालय में बर्फ से बनी गुफा है। बर्फ पिघलती है, और पानी एक छोटी सी धारा के रूप में बहता है। जैसे-जैसे गंगा पहाड़ों से नीचे बहती है, उतनी ही छोटी-छोटी नदियाँ उससे जुड़ती जाती हैं। इस प्रकार गंगा बड़ी और बड़ी हो जाती है। यह बहुत तेजी से पहाड़ों से नीचे बहती है। मैदानी इलाकों में पहुंचते-पहुंचते यह और चौड़ी हो जाती है।

Translation : यह हरिद्वार के मैदानों में पहुँचती है। मैदानी इलाकों में यह भारत के कई गांवों और कस्बों से होकर बहती है। गंगा नदी के दोनों किनारों पर हरे भरे खेत हैं। मैदानी इलाकों में और भी कई नदियाँ गंगा में मिल जाती हैं। प्रयागराज में यमुना और अदृश्य सरस्वती गंगा से मिलती हैं। तीनों नदियों के मिलन स्थल को त्रिवेणी संगम कहते हैं। तीर्थ राज प्रयाग नामक एक पवित्र स्थान है। कुंभ प्रयाग में मेले ने लोगों की दुनिया की सबसे बड़ी धार्मिक सभा के रूप में अंतरराष्ट्रीय ख्याति प्राप्त की है। कई हिंदुओं का मानना है कि गंगा में पवित्र डुबकी लगाने से व्यक्ति की आत्मा को पिछले सभी पापों से मुक्ति मिल सकती है।

Translation : गंगा कई बड़े शहरों से गुजरने के बाद समुद्र की ओर बहती है। जैसे-जैसे यह समुद्र के करीब पहुंचती है, इसकी गति धीमी और धीमी होती जाती है और अंत में यह समुद्र में विलीन हो जाती है। पहाड़ों में ऊपर से गंगा की लंबी यात्रा बंगाल की खाड़ी में समाप्त होती है। जहाँ गंगा समुद्र में मिलती है, वह स्थान गंगा सागर कहलाता है।
