The Donkey and the Dog
A washerman had a donkey ………. the donkey taught.
एक धोबी के पास एक गधा और एक कुत्ता था। वह रोज सुबह कपड़े धोने नदी पर जाता। गधा कपड़ों का भार ढोता। वह मालिक के घर के बाहर एक शेड में रहता था और कुत्ता दिन भर घर के अंदर ही रहता था। शाम को कुत्ता अपने मालिक को देखकर खुश हो जाता। वह अपने मालिक को चाटता और उस पर कूद पड़ता। मालिक कुत्ते को गोद में उठाकर घर के अंदर ले जाता। यह देख गधा भी घर में रहना चाहता था। “हो सकता है, अगर मैं भी उन पर कुत्ते की तरह कूदूँ, तो वह मुझे भी अपनी बाँहों में उठाकर घर के अंदर ले जायेंगे,” गधे ने सोचा।

अगले दिन शाम को गधा घर के अंदर चला गया। वह अपने मालिक पर कूद पड़ा और उसे चाटने लगा। मालिक ने गधे को नहीं उठाया। वह उसे शेड में ले गया। गधे को थपथपाते हुए मालिक ने उससे कहा, “तुम कुत्ते की तरह नहीं हो। तुम बहुत बड़े हो, इसलिए तुम घर के अंदर नहीं आ सकते।” मालिक ने आगे कहा, “तुम भारी भी हो और इसलिए तुम्हें मुझ पर कूदना नहीं चाहिए। मैं कुत्ते को उठा सकता हूं लेकिन तुम्हें नहीं उठा सकता। लेकिन तुमसे प्यार करता हूँ, जितना मैं कुत्ते से प्यार करता हूँ। आपको समझना चाहिए कि आप अलग हैं।”
